Katra to Srinagar Vande Bharat: Expected Launch Date, Ticket price and other things to know

Though there is know offical confirmation from Northen Railways or other government offices, but there is insider news claiming the Vande Bharat train will be inaugurated on February 17.

When the Vande Bharat Express begins service between the railway stations of Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK), the Kashmir valley will soon be connected to the rest of the nation by a rail link. The train will cross the highest rail bridge in the world, the Chenab Bridge. Less than a month after Indian Railways’ trial run of the specially designed Vande Bharat, the operations are anticipated to begin in February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the train.

Date of Launch for Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat

Numerous sources are asserting that the train will be inaugurated on February 17; however, neither Indian Railways nor any other government agency have provided an official confirmation. The Sangaldan-Riyasi track will be inaugurated by PM Modi from Katra. The Vande Bharat train service will then begin running straight from Katra to Srinagar.

The cost of tickets for Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat

Although the exact cost of the tickets has not yet been disclosed, estimates indicate:

Car with air conditioning: Rs 1,500–Rs 1,600
Car with an executive chair: Rs 2,200–Rs 2,500
Upon formal confirmation, these fares could change.

The anticipated route and stoppages for Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) is where the train runs, linking important stops such as

  • Anantnag
  • Awantipora
  • Katra
  • Udhampur

This train would provide passengers with a comfortable and effective ride by drastically cutting down on the time it takes to travel between Jammu and Srinagar.

Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat: Schedule

Train schedules for the Katra-Srinagar route were released by Northern Railway last month. It states that at 8.10 am, the Vande Bharat Express train will depart Katra and reach Srinagar at 11.20 am. The train will depart Srinagar at 8.55 am and arrive in Katra at 12.05 pm.

Features of Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat

Improved safety features and contemporary passenger amenities, such as the KAVACH anti-collision system, faster acceleration, a fully sealed gangway, automatic plug doors, improved ride comfort, a mini pantry with a hot case, bottle cooler, deep freezer, and hot water boiler, ergonomic seats that recline, executive class seats that rotate, mobile charging outlets for each seat, and CCTVs, are all included in these special trains.

According to reports, these trains can function in temperatures as low as minus twenty (-20) degrees Celsius because they were built for extremely cold environments. These train rakes’ bio-toilets will be equipped with features that keep water from freezing.

Addressing the Vande Bharat Trains

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Rajya Sabha in a written response last week that as of January 2025, there are 136 Vande Bharat train services with chair coaches running on the Indian Railways network.

Additionally, the minister stated that certain trains are nearly 100% occupied overall.
